Notes, quotes and a thought or two…
I can’t say at this moment what’s going to happen in high school athletics this spring but all I know is that nobody is going to be playing until April 17.
Two of the area’s best pitchers met in Stringer on Monday when Kemp Alderman and Jaylon Buckley met in a public versus private school matchup.
It was Alderman who got the better end of the deal as the Generals took a 4-2 win over the Yellowjackets. NCA also beat rival Sylva Bay 5-1 on Monday.
The Union Lady Yellowjackets got over the .500 mark last week with a pair of wins in the Kosciusko Tournament.
Union opened the week with an 11-2 win over Nanih Waiya and then beat Ethel 8-2.
Union was scheduled to begin division play with a two-game series with Newton but those games have been postponed.
The Lake Hornets had an exciting week on the baseball diamond as they split a pair of one-run games.
The Hornets opened the week with an 11-10 loss to Puckett on Monday and then rebounded to take an 8-7 win over Choctaw Central on Wednesday to finish out the week.
The Newton County Lady Cougars won two out of three games this past week on the softball diamond.
After losing 10-0 to Northwest Rankin on Friday, the Lady Cougars responded with a pair of wins, beating D’Iberville 10-8 on Friday and West Harrison 10-5 on Saturday.
The Sebastopol Bobcats won their fourth straight contest last week with a pair of wins.
The Bobcats beat Philadelphia 14-4 on Monday and then took an 8-2 win over Choctaw Central on Wednesday.
Sebastopol, now 6-2 on the season, was scheduled to play a two-game series with Union this week but those games have been postponed.
