The Union Board of Aldermen will, in all likelihood, put their stamp of approval on a 2019 fiscal budget that projects revenues of $1.304 million in revenues and $1.346 million in expenditures.
The slight shortfall will be made up in carry over surpluses from previous years.
In a short, uneventful August meeting last week, the Union Board of Aldermen wasted very little time in disposing of a brief agenda of routine items.
They held a brief discussion with City Clerk Cheryl Chaney about the possibility of planning for a 1-mill tax raise in September, but took no action.
There wasn’t a whole lot of business conducted at last week’s May meeting of the Union Board of Aldermen.
It was primarily a discussion of income and expenses for the city.
There wasn’t any mention of the Street Department in last week’s April meeting of the Union Board of Aldermen; but, every other department got its time at the table.
Mayor Wayne Welch told the Aldermen that Union was still studying what action it will take with regards to County Line Water Association.
In a relatively short, routine meeting, the Union Board of Aldermen covered just a few items in the February meeting last Tuesday.
In short order they reappointed Shirley Walton to a five-year term on the Union School Board.
The Union Board of Aldermen did dispose of a few items of routine business, but the majority of their January deliberations last week were conducted behind closed doors.
As the meeting opened, Mayor Wayne Welch requested that the Board go into executive session to discuss what he said was “possible litigation.”
There weren’t any votes or action taken, but Union’s aldermen began looking at a plan to expand the city’s limits at their November meeting Nov. 7.
The impetus for the plan came from Alderman Billy McCune who brought a map that was prepared at his request by East Central Planning and Development District.

The Board of Alderman, with very little discussion, accepted Water Superintendent Jonathan Ferguson’s recommendation at Tuesday night’s July meeting and approved a 29 percent increase for Union residents.
Ferguson said the increases had to come.
