Turkey Creek re-opens lake

Turkey Creek Water Park is back up and running after a bout with blue algae caused park staff to temporarily shut down the lake as a precautionary measure.

Park Manager Pam Engle said she took a sample of the lake water to Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality last Monday to confirm the lake was clear.



Murder suspect in custody

A Newton County man has been charged with murder after a shooting incident Wednesday night in the Pine Bluff community that left one man dead.

Chief Deputy Kris Hollingsworth said deputies responded to the home of Kennard Nichols, 42, in the 3600 block of Pine Bluff Road Wednesday at 8:48 p.m.
