Thomas Howard: Bureaucracy complicates everything for Deerfield

I usually don’t feel much sympathy for politicians – they’re the ones who wanted to get elected – but this week I had the opportunity to learn about the bureaucratic nightmare that is the Deerfield subdivision in Union, and I have to say I feel incredibly sorry for the Newton County supervisors as they try to explain why they can’t fix the road






Killen takes helm at UHS

Incoming freshmen at Union High School will see a familiar face next year as Union Middle School Principal Lee Killen moves up to take the lead at Union High School.

The district announced last week Killen would replace Brett Rigby as Union High School principal for the 2019-20 school year.




Union Day draws big crowds

Hundreds of residents flooded downtown Union to hear political speakers, shop at vendor booths and visit with friends at the annual Union Day festival Saturday. Organized each year by the Union Chamber of Commerce, Union Day is a celebration of the people and businesses that call the small East Mississippi town home.
