Sen. Burton suffers stroke

Sen. Terry C. Burton has had a stroke and is undergoing medical care, Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves’s office announced today.

Burton, who resigned his position as Senate Pro Tem earlier this month, has served in the Senate since 1992 as the representative for District 31, which includes Newton, Scott and Lauderdale counties.


Bridge closed in Beat 4

The bridge east of the intersection of Lawrence Hazel Road and Old Hwy. 80 will be closed at noon today, Jan. 22, according to District 4 Supervisor Charles Godwin.

"We apologize for the inconvenience this will cause," Godwin said. "However, this closure is necessary for the safety of the public."
