Senate passes resolution honoring late Sen. Rob SmithBy TERRY C. BURTON,
We passed Senate Concurrent Resolution 501 in honor of former Sen. Rob Smith, who passed Dec. 15, 2017.
Smith, a Rankin County resident, served 20 years in the Senate and four years in the House, having authored many items of legislation. Smith was a devoted member of his community and was a founding member of the South Rankin Rotary Club and a Mason. Sen. Smith was my true and trusted friend who was dedicated to his God, his state and his two beautiful daughters, Tara and Karlie.
The Rules Committee mandated our staff undergo Sexual Harassment Recognition training and strongly suggested that senators take the course.
We also honored the life of Mrs. Sallie Mae Cooley, a 109-year-old Jasper County resident and we recorded the governor’s partial vetoes of Senate Bill 2956 and Senate Bill 3015.
