Newton Library will host Future Ready, a college and career readiness program for middle school children. The program will feature guest speakers and fun activities that help with leadership, self-confidence, and creativity. Classes are held Thursdays, from 5-6 p.m. at the J. Elliot McMullan Public Library, 300 West Church Street, Newton. More information call 601-683-3367
Family Movie Night
Union Public Library will host Family Movie Night every Friday at 2:30 p.m. to all ages. Free popcorn included. The library is located at 101 Peachtree St. For more information, call 601-774-5096.
Newton County MSU Alumni
The Newton County Chapter of the Mississippi State Alumni Association will not hold a December meeting. The next chapter meeting will be held 6 p.m. Jan. 15 in the East Central Community College Cafeteria Gold Room. All graduates of Mississippi State University are invited to attend.
Roxy Theater Youth Auditions
Auditions for Roxy Theater’s youth production of Mary Poppins, Jr. for 4th - 12th graders will be Jan. 8 and 10 at 4:30 p.m. at the Roxy Theatre in Newton. Those auditioning should be prepared to sight read and sing either the “Happy Birthday” song or a verse of “My Country ‘Tis of Thee.” Under the direction of Melinda Rich, performances will be March 7, 8, and 9.
Diabetes Prevention Program
Newton Family and Pediatric Clinic is offering the first ever Diabetes Prevention Program in the Newton County area on January 5th, 2018 at 5:30 p.m. at their clinic located at 9427 Eastside Drive Ext, Newton, MS 39345. The program is offered to all pre-diabetic patients ages 18 and over who want to learn more about preventing Type 2 diabetes.
