Lake takes down Eupora in playoffs


After splitting the first two games against Eupora, Lake’s Taylor Duncan took control of the series. 

Lake took Game 1 of the series 5-3 while Eupora bounced back to take Game 2 7-3 to even the series. Duncan then allowed just one hit in Game 3 to take a 7-0 win and take the series win for the Lady Hornets.

Lake improves to 23-9 with the series win and will take on Division 4-2A foe Union in the next round. Game 1 of the series is Monday at Union at 7 p.m. with the next two games of the series set for Tuesday at Lake starting at 5 p.m. with the if-needed game to follow. 

Lake 5, Eupora 3

Lake scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and took a two-run win on Tuesday in Game 1 of the North 2A series.

Lake scored one run in the bottom of the first before Eupora answered with one in the second and two in the third. The score stayed 3-1 until the bottom of the sixth when the Lady Hornets scored four runs to take the win. Lake had eight hits in the contest, including five doubles. Landry LeBlanc was 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI. Reagan Clark was 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI while Hanna Wilkerson was 2-for-2 with a double. Olivia Clay had a double and an RBI while Alana Edmonds had a single and an RBI.

Taylor Duncan pitched all seven innings for Lake as he gave up three runs on four hits and four walks while striking out five.

Eupora 7, Lake 3

Eupora scored four runs in the second inning and held that lead to take a Game 2 win on Saturday.

Lake scored single runs in the first, fourth and seventh innings. Eupora scored four in the second, one in the third and two in the fifth.

Lake had just six hits in the contest as Kaytie Hillman was 2-for-3 and Alana Edmonds was 2-for-4. Hannah Wilkerson singled, walked twice and scored a run. Olivia Clay also had a single.

Taylor Duncan got the start and pitched four innings, giving up six runs on nine hits and four walks while striking out five. Kate Gladney pitched the final two innings and gave up one run on three hits.

Lake 7, Eupora 0

After splitting the first two games, the Lady Hornets took Game 3 of the series to advance in the playoffs.

The game was scoreless until the sixth inning when Lake plated six runs. The Lady Hornets added another run in the seventh for their final run.

Laurel Breland led off the inning by reaching on an error and Hannah Wilkerson blasted a two-run home run to give Lake a 2-0 win. After two outs, Alana Edmonds scored on a single by Kaytie Hillman. Jordan McLemore reached on an error and Taylor Duncan cleared the bases on a two-base error to give Lake a 6-0 lead. Wilkerson added a solo home run in the seventh for the final margin.

Lake had six hits in the contest led by Wilkerson who was 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs. Breland and Hillman each singled and scored. 

Taylor Duncan was dominant on the mound for Lake, giving up just one run but scattering eight walks while striking out seven to pick up the win.
