The Newton County Academy Generals won their second straight game as they battered home-standing Benton Academy.
The Generals had 438 yards of total offense and scored the game’s last 21 points to take a 42-14 win over Benton.
The Generals improve to 2-7 on the season with the win while the Raiders fall to 0-9.
“We needed that,” NCA coach Rob Roberts said of the win. “I thought Benton played us hard. They hit hard and got after us. We tried to do some different stuff on offense but ended up going back to running the ball in the second half and pulled away from them. We came out of there with everybody healthy and that’s a good thing at this time of year.”

The Generals got the ball to start the game and put together a 10-play, 61-yard drive as Eli Finnegan scored on a 12-yard touchdown run with 7:42 left in the first quarter. Ethan McDill booted the PAT and NCA led 7-0.
The NCA defense got in on the scoring on Benton’s first drive as Jordan Mason picked off a pass and returned it 80 yards for a touchdown. McDill’s PAT was blocked and NCA led 13-0.
The Generals extended the lead midway through the second quarter when Logan Little hit Lincoln Jordan on a 28-yard touchdown pass with 5:44 left in the half. McDill ran in the two-point conversion and NCA led 21-0.
Benton finally got on the board as the Raiders scored on a 22-yard touchdown pass to cut the lead to 21-7 at the half.

The Raiders got the ball to start the second half and went 69 yards in seven plays, scoring on a short touchdown pass to cut the lead to 21-14.
But the Generals went back to its punishing run game and wore the Raiders down. The Generals drove 80 yards in 12 plays as Jace Arthur scored on a 2-yard run with 3:31 left in the third. McDill’s PAT gave the Generals a 28-14 lead.
The Generals got the ball back on an interception by Jordan, setting up the NCA offense at the Raider 36. Seven plays later, Finnegan scored on a 5-yard run with 10:38 left in the game. McDill’s PAT gave the Generals a 35-14 lead.
NCA added one last touchdown with 5:24 left in the game as Jacob Smith scored on a 2-yard run. McDill’s PAT gave NCA a 41-14 lead.
The Generals had a big night on offense as they rushed for 325 yards on 45 carries and threw for a season-high 113 yards. Little was 6-of-9 passing for 105 yards. Jordan led the rushing attack with 129 yards on 18 carries while Finnegan had 102 yards on 12 carries. Colby Hollingsworth had 44 yards on five carries. Kemp Alderman had 36 yards receiving on three carries while Dalton Sibley had 31 yards receiving on two catches while Jordan had 29 yards on one catch.
On defense, Finnegan led the way with eight tackles while Kemp Alderman had seven tackles. Hollingsworth had five tackles while Sibley, Harber Reese and McDill each had four tackles apiece. Jordan and Zander Bounds each had three tackles while Jordan Mason, Jace Arthur and Corey Burton each had two tackles apiece. Alderman, Hollingswroth and Burton each had a sack while Sibley had two interceptions. Jordan and Mason each had an interception.
