Union comes close to clean sweep of 4 games

The Union Lady Yellowjackets won three out of four contests this past week and were within an inning of going undefeated on the week.

Union opened the week with a tight 5-4 win over West Lauderdale before taking a 12-2 blowout win over Scott Central on Thursday. The Lady Jackets beat Ethel 11-5 on Friday and fell 9-8 to Northwest Rankin on Saturday.

Union, now 7-6, has a pair of key 4-2A contests this week as the Lady Jackets will travel to Philadelphia on Tuesday and host Lake on Thursday.

Union 5, West Lauderdale 4

Union built a 5-0 lead and held off a late rally by West to take a one-run win on Monday.

Union scored two in the fourth and three in the fifth while West scored two in the sixth and seventh.

Union had seven hits in the contest as Mackenzie Dolan was 2-for-3 with two RBIs while Parker Breland was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Anna Grace Blount  had an RBI single while Dallas Brown singled and scored a run. Ansley Rigby had Union’s other hit.

Anna Rigdon pitched the first five innings and gave up two runs on five hits to pick up the win while Britli Cleveland pitched the final two innings, giving up two runs on four hits to pick up the save.

Union 12, Scott Central 2

The Lady Jackets scored in every inning as they took a five-inning, run-rule victory on Thursday.

Union led 3-0 after two innings and scored seven in the third to go up 10-2. They added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take the win.

Union had nine hits in the contest as Mackenzie Dolan was 3-for-3 with a double, triple and two RBIs. Kayleigh Vance was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs while Ansley Rigby was 2-for-3. Dallas Brown drove in three runs while Lilly Burton and DaShayla Jackson each scored two runs. Anna Rigdon had a double and drove in a run.

Anna Rigdon picked up the win as she pitched five innings and gave up two runs on three hits while striking out six.

Union 11, Ethel 5

Union overcame seven errors to take a six-run win over Ethel on Friday.

After each team scored two runs first and five in the second to lead 7-2. Union added single runs in the third and seventh and two in the sixth.

Union had eight hits in the contest as Mackenzie Dolan was 2-for-3 and drove in four runs while Dallas Brown was 2-for-3 with a double and scored three times. Parker Breland and Anna Rigdon each had single and drove in two runs while Macy Lott and Anna Grace Blount each scored twice. DaShayla Jackson also had a triple.

Britli Cleveland started in the circle and pitched six innings as she gave up five runs on six hits. Anna Rigdon pitched the final inning, getting three outs on four pitches.

Northwest Rankin 9, Union 8

Northwest Rankin scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a come-from-behind win over Union on Saturday.

Northwest led 3-0 after three innings before Union scored five in the fourth. Union scored one in the fifth and two in the sixth to lead 8-5 before Northwest scored four in the sixth.

Union had eight hits but four errors allowed six unearned runs. Mackenzie Dolan was 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs. Lilly Burton had a home run and two RBIs while Dallas Brown, Ansley Rigby, Macy Lott and DaShayla Jackson each had singles and scored runs. Lott also had two stolen bases.

Anna Rigdon started in the circle and pitched five innings as she gave up six runs on six hits and four walks. Britli Cleveland pitched the final inning and gave up three unearned runs on three hits to take the loss.
