In an overtime game, it’s usually the team that’s in the best shape that comes out on top.
That was exactly the case on Thursday for the Newton High School girls.

Cars lined the American Legion Post 89 Hut driveway as residents braved soggy conditions to attend the Gospel Singing concert to benefit the Hut restoration project.

The threat of rain Friday evening was not enough to keep Decatur residents from coming out to watch the annual Decatur Christmas Parade as it snaked down Broad Street to the Newton County Courthouse.

Newton County Academy managed only one win last week as the Lady Generals took a three-point win over Tri-County.

It appears first-year coach Maurice Bowie has made an impact at Lake High School.


Union adds two wins each

Both Union basketball teams picked up wins last week with sweeps over Noxapater and Morton.

The Yellowjackets beat Noxapater 68-42 and Morton 56-52 to improve to 9-2 on the season. Meanwhile the Lady Jackets cruised to a pair of wins as they beat Noxapater 43-15 and Morton 54-34.

The Lady Tigers overcame an early double-digit deficit and took a thrilling overtime win over Forest on Thursday night.
