The Newton Police Department and Newton County Sheriff’s Department are investigating a shooting Sunday night at the Newton Citgo Quick Food Mart No. 2, in which opposing parties exchanged gunfire and three people were injured.

An election to choose the next alderman for the Town of Chunky has been cancelled due to a shortage of candidates. The seat on the 5-alderperson board came open after Jacky Johnson was elected to replace Glenn Hollingsworth as Beat 5 County Supervisor.
Voters who cast their ballots at the Scanlan voting precinct will need to change course to vote in the March 10 primary election after the Newton County Board of Supervisors approved relocating the voting precinct to the East Central Alternative School.
Newton County voters will head to the polls March 10 to vote in the 2020 Primary Election. On the ballot will be candidates from President of the United States as well as races for the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate.
In primary elections voters must choose either the Democratic or Republican ballot when casting their votes.
