Clarke-Venable calls new student pastor

On Sunday, July 28, the membership of Clarke-Venable Baptist Church in Decatur voted overwhelmingly to call Thomas VanLandingham as its next student pastor.  Thomas comes to Decatur from First Baptist Church in Hazelhurst, MS.

This announcement marks the culmination of a process that began in January of this year when the previous long term and faithful student pastor, Shaun Selman, resigned to take a new position at a Church in Madison County, MS.  Recognizing the weightiness of the role of student pastor and knowing that his touch on the Church family is deep and wide, the eight member committee searched for a man with character above reproach, competence to do the job, and a personality to build relationships with students and parents alike.  The committee was convinced that God had directed them to Thomas VanLandingham to be the next student pastor of Clarke-Venable Baptist Church.

Thomas is married to Ana who will complete her student teaching in the fall and graduate with a degree in Elementary Education from Mississippi College in December of 2019.  Thomas and Ana were married in May of 2018.

The members of Clarke-Venable met with Thomas and Ana on Saturday, July 27 during a casual meet and greet fellowship after which Thomas led the students in a worship service and shared a meal with middle school and high school students.  Then, on the following Sunday morning in each worship service Thomas shared his testimony, his call to the ministry, and how God had worked in their lives to bring himself and Ana to Clarke-Venable Baptist Church.  He begins his ministry at Clarke-Venable on Aug. 19, 2019.
