Mrs. Mary Williams, age 77, passed away Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018 at MS Care Center in Morton, Miss. Visitation will be held Friday Sept. 7, 2018 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018 from 9 to 10:15 a.m. at Wolf Funeral Services in Lake. Services will be held Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Ebeneezer Baptist Church in Lawrence.



Mark S. McElhenney

Mark S. McElhenny of Pontotoc was born Aug. 23, 1964, and left this world on Aug. 24, 2018, at the age of 54. He will be missed by his family, a brother, Bo McElhaney (Renea) of Blue Springs; two sisters, Debbie Ivy of Algoma and Becky Jones (Jim) of Unity; a special friend, Rachel Swann of Pontotoc; and several other close friends.





Jack Glass

Jack Glass, age 94, joined Mary, his beloved wife of 66 years, in heaven on Aug. 26, 2018. Jack was born in Forsythe, Ga., on March 27, 1924. Upon graduation from Griffin High School in Griffin, Georgia, he joined the U.S. Navy.

City mourns loss of Gordon

The City of Union suffered a huge loss this weekend as longtime Union Municipal Judge and Board of Aldermen Attorney Rex Gordon Jr., passed away suddenly late Saturday night.

Newton County coroner Danny Shoemaker said Gordon died of a cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead just before midnight at Laird Hospital in Union.


Vincent to lead state’s SBC

Clarke-Venable Baptist Church pastor Mark Vincent has been named the president of the Mississippi Baptist Convention.

Vincent, who has served at Clark-Venable since June 2004, said he wasn’t seeking the position, but after praying and thinking about the opportunity, he agreed to serve if he was elected.
