The Newton County Academy Generals came right off the football fields and got a win on the basketball courts.
The Generals grabbed their first win of the season with a 38-33 win over Laurel Christian while the Lady Generals suffered their first loss with a 51-40 setback.
NCA will return to action this week as they travel to Park Place on Tuesday and host Brookhaven on Friday.
NCA boys 38, Laurel Christian 33
The Generals opened the season with a hard-earned five-point win over Laurel on Tuesday.
The Generals started out hot as they led 15-5 at the end of the first. Laurel cut into the lead in the second, outscoring NCA 12-7 as the Generals led 22-17 at the half. The Generals extended the lead in the third as they outscored Laurel 12-5 to take a 34-22 lead into the third.
Austin Upton led NCA in scoring with 15 points and eight rebounds while Riley Boswell had 14 points and five rebounds.
Laurel Christian girls 51, NCA 40
Laurel jumped out to an early lead and held that advance as they took an 11-point win to hand NCA its first loss of the season.
Belle Hollingsworth led NCA with 17 points and three rebounds while Asten Russell ha 12 points and three rebounds. Sarah Beth Bounds also had four rebounds.
