American Legion Post 89 from Decatur recently donated a POW/MIA Chair to Newton County High School to be placed at the football stadium.
The POW/MIA chair, also known as the "Chair of Honor," is a symbol of remembrance and hope for American service members who are still Prisoners of War (POW) or Missing in Action (MIA). It represents those unable to fill it due to their sacrifices. This empty chair is a permanent fixture in locations like the U.S. Capitol, where it serves as a memorial to those who haven't returned home. The chair is a constant reminder of the sacrifices made by POWs and MIAs, ensuring they are not forgotten.
The chair was presented to Ms. Brooke Sibley, Superintendent of Education, by Dan Hurst, Post 89 Commander, and Johnny Reeves, Central Area Vice Commander.
