So, we all know that the Fourth of July is this week, and we all know that this holiday is America’s birthday. We know that the first Fourth of July was on July 4, 1777. Well, the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence was actually on July 8, 1776, but July 4, 1777, was the first time that Congress celebrated Independence Day. So, we all know this stuff, and last week I gave ya’ll some ideas of fun things to do on the Fourth, but this week, I hope to share some fun facts about the Fourth of July. Did you know that there have been 27 different versions of the flag? Most of the changes were made to add stars, and we all know that Betsy Ross created the first flag. If you go to the National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C., you can actually see the Betsy Ross flag. You can’t take pictures of it, though. In 1818, a law was created that said the stars could only represent the number of states. The Fourth of July is one of the busiest days for emergency rooms because of accidents that happen with fireworks, so please be careful if you are shooting fireworks. Also, please think about your dogs if you shoot fireworks. Please take your dogs inside; fireworks make dogs very nervous. Also, wearing the American flag as clothing violates the Flag Code. Please read the Flag Code. You can find it online. It is very disrespectful to break the Flag Code. Also, please be careful with whatever you decide to do to celebrate the Fourth of July. Please think of the people who gave their lives so that we can celebrate. And, as always, please have fun. Enjoy the day with your families, and God bless America.
