Three others also make all-district team
As most coaches in Division 5-1A found out, Sebastopol’s Makarioius Michaels could swing the bat.
Michaels was honored for his season by being named the Most Valuable Offensive Player in the district. Michael was also named to the Mississippi Association of Coaches Class 1A All-state team and he was selected to play in the Crossroads Diamond Club All-star baseball game.
Michaels had a monster season for the Bobcats, who went 18-11 and lost in the second round of the playoffs to 1A runner-up Resurrection Catholic. Michaels led the Bobcats with a lofty .462 batting average and had 11 home runs and 12 doubles with a team -high 43 RBIs. The senior was second on the team with 12 stolen bases.
Michaels was also a standout in football and basketball for the Bobcats. The senior was a two-year starter at quarterback and linebacker for the Bobcats. Michaels was 75-of-152 passing for 1,288 yards with 16 TDs. He rushed for 354 yards on 107 carries with seven TDs. On defense, Michaels had 53 tackles. Michaels was a first-team Region 3-1A pick.
“I thought Kari had one of the best seasons I’ve seen since I’ve been coaching here,” coach Craig Martin said. “He always got the team going with a swing of his bat. I thought we had a good season. We battled adversity and stayed resilient throughout the year. I thought we always played tough and got put out by the state champs.”
Also making the first-team for the Bobcats was Jess Johnson, Harrison Peebles and Luke McGarrity.
Johnson hit .337 with 35 runs scored, five home runs, nine doubles and 34 RBIs. Johnson also led the Bobcats on the mound with a 6-4 record and a 4.28 ERA. Johnson pitched 50.2 innings and struck out a team-high 63 batters. Johnson was also selected to play in the Crossroads Diamond Club All-star baseball game as well and was a second-team Class 1A all-state pick.
Peebles burst on the scene as he hit .422 which was second on the team.
The sophomore had 10 doubles, seven home runs and 21 runs scored for the Bobcats.
Luke McGarrity also hit .337 with six doubles and 20 RBIs while scoring 35 runs. The sophomore also stole 17 bases to lead the team.
On the second team was senior Camron Lee and freshman Colby Dooley.
