Sebastopol 8-21, Bay springs 2-13
The Sebastopol Bobcats held off the scrappy Bay Springs Bulldogs and took a first-round playoff win last week.
Sebastopol swept two games from Bay Springs, winning 8-2 on Tuesday and 21-13 on Friday.
Sebastopol improves to 17-9 on the season and will face Resurrection Catholic in the second round of the Class 1A playoffs. Game 1 will be on Tuesday in Pascagoula at 6 p.m. while game 2 will be in Sebastopol on Friday at 6 p.m. An if-necessary game would be on Saturday at 6 p.m. back in Pascagoula.
Sebastopol 8, Bay Springs 2
The Bobcats scored five runs in the sixth to break open a close game and take a game 1 win.
The game was scoreless the first two innings before Sebastopol scored one in the third. Bay Springs scored two in the top of the fourth to take a 2-1 lead. But Sebastopol scored two in the bottom of the fourth and finished with five in the bottom of the sixth.
Sebastopol had just four hits but drew 10 walks. Harrison Peebles was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Alden Wilson singled, walked twice and scored twice. Camron Lee walked three times while Colby Dooley walked twice.
Jess Johnson pitched six innings and gave up two runs on five hits and four walks while striking out five. Kari Michaels pitched the last inning and didn’t give up a run.
Sebastopol 21, Bay Springs 13
The Bobcats banged out 15 hits and had 11 walks to take an eight-run win over the Bulldogs on Friday and sweep the series.
Each team scored four runs in the first inning and Sebastopol scored one in the second and four in the fourth. The Bobcats then scored five in the fifth and led 14-4. But Bay Springs scored two in the fifth while Sebastopol scored five more in the sixth and led 19-6. Bay Springs bounced back with a big seven-run sixth inning. Sebastopol then scored two in the seventh for the final margin.
Sebastopol outhit Bay Springs 15-11 and took advantage of 11 walks. Jess Johnson was 3-for-5 with a double and grand slam, three runs scored and seven RBIs. Colby Dooley was 3-for-4 with a home run, four runs scored and three RBIs. Presley Boykin was 2-for-4 with two home runs, three runs scored and four RBIs. Kari Michaels homered, scored twice and had three RBIs. Drake Wiskus was 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs. Camron Lee singled, walked twice and scored three runs while Alden Wilson doubled, walked twice and scored two runs.
Lee started on the mound and pitched 5 1/3 innings and gave up 10 runs on 10 hits and two walks while striking out seven. Michaels pitched the last 1 2/3 innings and gave up three unearned runs on one hit and one walk while striking out two.
