NCA 7-6, TUNICA 9-7
The Newton County Academy Generals saw their baseball season come to an end this past week at the hands of Tunica Academy.
NCA dropped a pair of tight games, losing 9-7 on Tuesday and 7-6 on Thursday.
NCA finished the season with a 16-11 record.
Tunica 7, NCA 6
The Blue Devils scored three runs in the last two innings and held on to take a one-run win over the Generals on Thursday to take the series.
Tunica scored four runs in the top of the first while NCA scored two in the first and third. After a scoreless fourth and fifth inning, Tunica scored one in the sixth and two in the seventh to go up 7-4. NCA added two runs in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead to one but failed to tie the game as Tunica took the win.
Tunica outhit NCA 14-5 in the contest. Micah Garrison was 2-for-4 with three runs scored while Leyton Porter singled and drove in three runs. Taylor Burt also singled and drove in two runs while Jackson Bunyard walked and scored three runs.
Paxton Russell started on the mound and pitched five innings, giving up four runs on 11 hits and two walks while striking out two. Stephen Duke pitched the last two innings and gave up three runs on three hits and two walks while striking out two.
Tunica 9, NCA 7
The Generals fought back from an early deficit but dropped a two-run decision to the Blue Devils to open the series on Tuesday.
Tunica scored six runs in the bottom of the first while NCA answered with four in the second and single runs in the third, fifth and sixth to go ahead 7-6. But Tunica finished with three in the sixth to take the lead.
Tunica outhit NCA 6-4 in the contest while the Generals drew seven walks. Logan Heidelberg was 2-for-3 while Steven Duke singled and walked twice. Micah Garrison also walked and scored a run for NCA.
Jackson Bunyard started on the mound but only went one inning, giving up six runs, only one earned on two hits and five walks. Duke pitched the last five innings and gave up three unearned runs on four hits.
