The Newton County Academy baseball team got in four games this past week and picked up a pair of wins.
NCA started the week with an 8-2 loss to Oak Hill on Monday and then fell 12-6 to Russell Christian on Thursday. The Generals then finished off the week with a sweep of Prentiss Christian, beating the Saints 16-1 on Friday and 11-1 on Saturday.
NCA will return to action this week as they host Kemper Academy on Monday and then travel to Hebron Christian on Thursday. NCA will finish the week as they play at Laurel Christian on Friday.
NCA 11, Prentiss Christian 1
The Generals won their second straight game as they took a six-inning, run-rule win over the Saints.
NCA scored three in the first and finished with one in the fourth, five in the fifth and two in the sixth.
NCA had just four hits but took advantage of five errors and eight walks.
Jax Porter was 2-for-2 in the game with a double and two runs scored. Austin Upton singled and drive in two runs while Garrett Loper walked twice and scored twice. Braxton Kelly also walked twice while Slayden Hollingsworth scored two runs.
Lee Hollingsworth started on the mound and got the win, pitching five innings and scattering four hits while striking out five. Leyton Porter pitched the sixth and gave up one run on one walk while striking out two.
NCA 16, Prentiss Christian 1
The Generals banged out 15 hits and took a six-inning, run-rule win over the Saints on Friday.
Each team scored one in the second before NCA scored six in the third, one in the fifth and seven in the sixth.
NCA outhit Prentiss 15-4 in the contest as Lee Hollingsworth was 2-for-3 with a double and four runs scored. Logan Smith was 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Micah Garrison was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Garrett Loper was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Ryan Moore and Jax Porter also had doubled while Austin Upton singled and drove in two runs. Conner Clark singled, scored twice and had two RBIs.
Jax Porter started on the mound and gave up one run on four hits and two walks while striking out 12.
Russell Christian 12, NCA 6
The Warriors scored 10 runs in the last three innings to pull away and take a six-run win over the Generals on Thursday.
Russell scored one in the first and second before NCA answer with one in the second and two in the third to go up 3-2. But Russell scored three in the fifth and seventh and four in the sixth. NCA finished with three runs in the sixth for the final margin.
Russell outhit NCA 12-7 in the contest. Austin Upton led NCA at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Jax Porter doubled and walked twice while Lee Hollingsworth singled and scored three runs.
Upton started and pitched 5 1/3 innings and gave up six runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out five. Logan Smith pitched the next two-thirds of an inning and gave up six runs on three hits and a walk while Leyton Porter pitched the final inning.
Oak Hill 8, NCA 2
The Generals managed just three hits as the Raiders pulled away late to take a six-run win on Monday at East Central.
Oak Hill scored two in the first and one in the second to go up 3-0. NCA scored one in the fourth and sixth while Oak Hill finished with one in the fifth and sixth and three in the seventh.
Lee Hollingsworth was 2-for-3 for NCA with an RBI while Ryan Moore also singled. Braxton Kelly and Jax Porter scored NCA’s two runs.
Porter started and gave up three runs on one hit and five walks while striking out six. Hollingsworth pitched the last four and gave up five runs on five hits and five walks while striking out eight.
