The Newton County Academy baseball team lost a pair of district games last week.
The Generals lost 9-7 to Calhoun Academy on Tuesday and 14-4 to Kemper on Friday.
NCA is scheduled to return to play on Monday as they host Park Place. They will then play at Calhoun Academy on Tuesday and at Sylva Bay on Friday.
Calhoun Academy 9, NCA 7
The Cougars used a steady offense to take a two-run win over the Generals on Tuesday.
Calhoun scored two runs in the second, third and sixth innings and added three in the fifth. NCA scored three in the second and one in the third and fourth to take a 5-4 lead. NCA added two runs in the seventh.
Calhoun outhit NCA 15-10 in the contest. Micah Garrison was 3-for-4 in the contest while Garrett Loper was 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored. Steven Duke tripled and scored a run while Jackson Bunyard doubled and drove in two runs. Lawson Reeves singled and scored two runs while Ty Thrash also doubled.
Landon Smith started on the mound and pitched five innings, giving up seven runs on 14 hits and two walks while striking out five. Leyton Porter pitched the last two innings and gave up two runs on one hit and two walks while striking out two.
Kemper Academy 14, NCA 4
The Rams used a big third inning to pull away and take a 10-run win over the Generals on Friday in district play.
Each team scored two runs in the first inning while Kemper scored one in the second. Kemper then scored six in the third and three in the fourth to take a 12-3 lead. Each team scored one in the fifth and Kemper scored one in the sixth.
Kemper outhit NCA 10-7 and took advantage of six errors and four walks from the Generals. Jackson Bunyard was 2-for-2 with a double while Garrett Loper was 2-for-3 with a solo home run.
Paxton Russell started on the mound and pitched three innings, giving up nine runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out four. Lawson Reeves pitched the last three innings and gave up five runs, only one earned, on two hits.
