The Union baseball team dropped three baseball games this past week, including a pair of division contests.
Union dropped a pair of Division 5-3A games to Morton, falling 9-3 on Tuesday and 15-5 on Friday. Union then dropped a 5-4 walk-off to Raleigh on Saturday to finish out the week.
Union, now 4-10 on the season, will return to play this week with a division series with Southeast Lauderdale. Union will host Southeast on Tuesday and travel to the Tigers on Friday. Union will then host Raleigh on Saturday.
Morton 9, Union 3
The Panthers scored early and often and took a six-run win over the Yellowjackets on Tuesday.
Union scored three in the top of the first before Morton answered with two in the first and second. Morton then finished with three in the third and two in the fifth.
Morton outhit Union 8-4 in the contest. Cameron Sanderson, Kolton Cockerham and Riley Martin each singled and scored while Colt Smith also singled. Brylen Edmonson also had two stolen bases.
Smith started on the mound and pitched four innings, giving up seven runs on five hits and six walks while striking out four. Kaleb Casey pitched the last two innings, giving up two unearned runs on three hits and a walk while striking out three.
Morton 15, Union 5
The Panthers used a big fifth inning and took a run-rule win over the Yellowjackets on Friday.
Each team scored one in the first while Morton scored three in the second and led 4-2 going to the fifth. Morton then scored 11 runs in the top of the fifth while Union answered with three in the fifth.
Morton outhit Union 7-5 and had six hit batters and drew five walks. Kaleb Casey was 2-for-2 with a home run and three runs scored. Kolton Cockerham was 2-for-3 while Cameron Sanderson also had two RBIs. Bankston Rush also singled and scored.
Riley Martin started on the mound and pitched 4 1/3 innings and gave up with runs on three hits, five walks and four hit batters. Casey then gave up three runs on one hit while Jacob Freeman pitched 2/3 of an inning and gave up four runs on three hits.
Raleigh 5, Union 4
The Lions scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a walk-off win over the Yellowjackets on Saturday.
Union scored three in the top of the second while Raleigh answered with two in the second and one in the third. Union then finished with one in the fifth. Raleigh then scored two runs in the seventh to take the win.
Union outhit Raleigh 6-5 in the contest. Kolton Cockerham was 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs while Riley Martin and Kaleb Casey each doubled. Cameron Sanderson and Jacob Freeman each singled.
Samuel Alawine started on the mound and pitched six innings, giving up five runs on four hits and three walks while striking out seven.
