Despite several close games, the Newton County Academy girls pulled out the only win of the week.
The Lady Generals opened the week with a 39-37 win over Tri-County Academy before falling 50-41 to Manchester and 59-47 to Sylva Bay.
The Generals lost all three contests, falling 60-38 to Sylva Bay, 47-45 to Manchester and 48-36 to Tri-County.
NCA has just one game this week as they are scheduled to go to Lamar School on Friday. The following week, NCA will play in the Lamar School Tournament starting on Monday, Dec. 21 and running through Wednesday.
Sylva Bay boys 60, NCA 38
The Generals struggled against the rival Saints as they dropped a 22-point decision on Saturday.
Sylva Bay started fast as they led 19-6 at the end of the first period and 34-17 at the half. Each team scored 11 points in the third period before Sylva Bay took the final period 15-10 to take the win.
Riley Boswell led NCA with 14 points while Austin Upton had 13 points.
Sylva Bay girls 59, NCA 47
The Lady Saints used quick starts to each half and took a 12-point win over the Lady Generals on Saturday.
Sylva Bay jumped out to a 15-9 lead in the first period and led 29-22 at the half. The Lady Saints then outscored the Lady Generals 19-13 in the third to lead 48-35 going to the fourth. NCA took the final period 12-11 for the final margin.
NCA put three players in double digits as freshman Macie Woodham had 12 points and six rebounds. Lilly Hollingsworth had 11 points and six rebounds while Cayden Alexander had 10 points and six rebounds.
Manchester boys 47, NCA 45
The Mavericks held on to take a two-point win over the Generals on Thursday.
The game was close all the way as NCA led 12-10 at the end of the first. Manchester outscored NCA 12-10 in the second to tie the game at 22-22. Manchester outscored NCA 10-9 in the third and 15-14 in the fourth. The Generals got a big three-pointer from Lawson Reeves to pull within two but couldn’t get off a shot as Manchester took the win.
Riley Boswell led NCA with 16 points while Zander Meeks and Reeves each had seven points apiece.
Manchester girls 50, NCA 41
The Lady Mavericks used a big second period to take a nine-point win over the Lady Generals on Thursday.
NCA led 11-9 at the end of the first before Manchester outscored the Lady Generals 21-5 in the second to lead 30-16 at the half. NCA settled down and outscored Manchester 11-10 in the third and 14-10 in the fourth but cut the margin to nine.
Belle Hollingsworth led NCA with 11 points and six steals while Lilly Hollingsworth had 11 points.
Tri-County boys 48, NCA 36
The Rebels used a big fourth period to pull away and take a 12-point win over the Generals on Tuesday.
NCA led 7-4 at the end of the first period and 15-14 at the half. Tri-County outscored NCA 10-9 in the third to tie the game at 24-24. But Tri-County then doubled up their score in the fourth period, outscoring NCA 24-12 to take the win.
Austin Upton led NCA with 13 points while Riley Boswell had 12 points.
NCA girls 39, Tri-County 37
The Lady Generals held on late to take a two-point win over the Lady Rebels on Tuesday.
Tri-County led 6-4 at the end of the first before NCA outscored the Lady Rebels 17-10 in the second to take a 21-16 lead into the half. Tri-County outscored NCA 9-5 in the third to cut the lead to 26-25 going into the fourth. NCA held on in the fourth, outscoring Tri-County 13-12 to take the win.
In the fourth, NCA got a couple of late buckets by freshman Macie Woodham to take the win, including the game-winner in the last minute.
Lilly Hollingsworth had a big game with 15 points and 14 rebounds while Asten Russell had seven rebounds.
