Both Newton County Academy basketball teams picked up a big district win last week.
The Lady Generals hammered Prentiss Christian 48-19 but then dropped a 42-37 decision to Lamar Christian as they moved to 15-2 on the season.
The Generals also picked up a big 37-35 win over Prentiss but fell 61-20 to Lamar Christian.
NCA will return to play this week with a pair of district contests as they play at Discovery Christian on Tuesday and host Laurel Christian on Friday.
NCA girls 48, Prentiss Christian 19
The Lady Generals started fast in each half and cruised to a 29-point win over the Lady Saints.
NCA jumped out to a 17-2 lead in the first period and each team scored seven points in the second period as the Lady Generals led 24-9 at the half. NCA then put the game away as they outscored Prentiss 20-0 in the third to lead 44-9 going to the fourth. Prentiss took the fourth period 10-4 with a running clock for the final margin.
Adriane Luke led NCA with 12 points while Addison Mathis had eight points. In all, nine NCA players scored.
NCA boys 37, Prentiss Christian 35
The Generals held off a furious rally in the fourth to take a two-point win over the Saints in district play.
NCA led 8-7 at the end of the first period and then outscored Prentiss 12-4 in the second to lead 20-11 at the half. NCA extended the lead in the third and outscored Prentiss 11-8 in the third to lead 31-19 going to the fourth. But the Saints rallied and outscored the Generals 16-6 but fell short as NCA held on for the win.
Cohen Rule led NCA with 14 points.
Lamar Christian girls 42, NCA 37
The Lady Lions pulled away in the fourth period to take a hard-fought, five-point win over the Lady Generals in district play.
NCA took a 10-7 lead in the first period before Lamar Christian took the second period 10-5 to take a 17-15 lead at the half. NCA pulled back in front on the third period and outscored Lamar 13-7 to lead 28-24 going to the fourth. But Lamar outscored NCA 18-9 in the fourth to take the win.
Adriane Luke led NCA with nine points while Piper Collins and Lillian Nutt each had eight points.
Lamar Christian boys 61, NCA 20
The Lions outscored the Generals in every period and rolled to a 41-point win.
Lamar outscored NCA 17-2 in the first and 19-4 in the second to lead 36-6 at the half. Lamar continued to extend its lead in the second half, outscoring NCA 14-8 in the third and 11-6 in the fourth.
Cohen Rule led NCA with eight points.
