The Newton County Academy girls completed a perfect run through district play last week with a pair of wins.
The Lady Generals improved to 17-3 on the season as they took a pair of double-digit wins last week, beating Calhoun Academy 52-40 and rival Sylva Bay 43-24.
The NCA boys split a pair of games, beating Calhoun 50-44 but falling to Sylva Bay 54-17.
Both NCA teams will play in the district tournament this week at Calhoun.
The NCA girls will play Kemper Academy on Thursday at 7 p.m. while the NCA boys will also play Kemper on Thursday at 8:30 p.m.
The girls’ championship game is set for Saturday at 4 p.m. while the boys championship game is set for 5:30 p.m.
NCA girls 52, Calhoun Aca. 40
The Lady Generals started fast and cruised to a 12-point win over the Lady Cougars.
NCA jumped out to a 17-8 lead in the first period and then outscored the Lady Cougars 15-11 in the second to lead 32-19 at the half. Calhoun outscored NCA 14-11 in the third to cut the lead to 43-33 going to the fourth. NCA took the fourth period 9-7 to take the win.
Cayden Alexander had a big game with 22 points while Macie Woodham had 14 points. Lilly Hollingsworth also had 11 points for the Lady Generals.
NCA boys 50, Calhoun Aca. 44
The Generals overcame some hot shooting by the Cougars in the first half and rallied to take a six-point win.
Calhoun used that hot shooting to outscored NCA 28-18 in the first period while the Generals outscored the Cougars 12-10 in the second to cut the margin to 38-30 at the half. NCA then outscored Calhoun 12-2 in the third to take a 42-40 lead into the fourth. NCA then took the fourth period 8-4 to take the win.
Noah Agent led NCA with 14 points while Tyler Thrash had 11 points. Trace Evans also had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
NCA girls 43, Sylva Bay 24
The Lady Generals pulled away with a big second period and took an easy 19-point win over the Lady Saints.
NCA led 14-9 at the end of the first before the Lady Generals outscored the Lady Saints 17-0 in the second to lead 31-9 at the half. NCA took the third period 12-9 while Sylva Bay outscored NCA 6-0 in the fourth.
Cayden Alexander led NCA with 18 points while Madline Vance had 13 points. Macie Woodham added seven points and Lilly Hollingsworth chipped in five points.
Sylva Bay boys 54, NCA 17
The Saints dominated the first three period and cruised to a 37-point win over the Generals.
Sylva Bay outscored NCA 17-6 in the first period and 17-3 in the second to lead 34-9 at the half. Sylva Bay then outscored NCA 18-4 in the third to lead 52-13 going to the fourth. NCA took the fourth period 4-2 for the final margin.
Tyler Thrash led Union with five points while Trace Evans had four points.
