The Lake Lady Hornets started the defense of their Class 2A state championship with a pair of blowout wins last week.
The Lady Hornets opened the Class 2A state tournament with a 75-45 win over Loyd Star and then hammered Pisgah 78-46.
First-year Lake coach Holly Moncrief said her team is starting to put things together after a tough start to the season.
“I think we are playing really well right now,” Moncrief said. “We have some things we have to clean up defensively and some things offensively. But I think we have really started playing well and starting to come together and gel at the right time. Hopefully we will continue on with that.”
The Lady Hornets improved to 21-9 on the season and will play West Lincoln on Friday at Clinton High School in a 4:30 p.m. game.
Lake girls 78, Pisgah 46
The Lady Hornets outscored the Lady Dragons in every period to take a 32-point win on Friday night and advance to the Class 2A quarterfinals.
Lake jumped out to a 15-4 lead in the first period and then outscored Pisgah 22-12 to take a commanding 37-16 lead at the half. Lake continued to extend its lead in the second half as the outscored Pisgah 19-11 in the third and 22-19 in the fourth.
Laneisha Palm had another big game with 34 points, seven assists, five rebounds and five steals. Kelis Odom had 13 points while Taylor Clark had 11 points, four steals and three rebounds. Brook Harris had 10 points, five rebounds and five blocks while Lyric La had eight points, three steals, three assists and three rebounds.
Lake girls 75, Loyd Star 45
Lake pulled away in the middle two periods and took a 30-point win over the Loyd Star on Monday night in an opening round game.
The game was tight in the first period as Lake outscored Loyd Star 20-16. Lake then pulled away and outscored Loyd Star 27-11 and led 47-27 at the half. Lake then outscored Loyd Star 18-8 in the third period and led 65-35. Each team scored 10 points in the fourth period for the final margin.
Laneisha Palm led Lake with 21 points, five rebounds, five steals and four assists. Kelis Odom had 16 points with three steals and three rebounds while Taylor Clark had 15 points and four rebounds. Alicia Oliphant had 10 points, four steals and three rebounds while Lyric Lay had eight points. Brooke Harris had four points, five rebounds and five blocks.
