The Newton girls picked up a big win in Division 5-2A play last week against Bay Springs.
The Lady Tigers took a 43-35 win over the Lady Bulldogs while the Tigers dropped a 40-33 decision to the Bulldogs.
Newton was scheduled to play Scott Central on Monday and Clarkdale on Tuesday. The Lady Tigers will then play in the Meridian girls Rock Classic on Saturday.
Newton girls 43, Bay Springs 35
The Lady Tigers started fast in each half and took an eight-point win over the Lady Bulldogs on Friday.
Newton jumped ahead 9-4 in the first period and each team scored 12 points in the second period as the Lady Tigers led 21-16 at the half. Newton then outscored Bay Springs 13-10 in the third period to lead 34-26 going to the fourth. Each team scored nine points in the fourth period for the final margin.
Jamiya Jones led Newton with 15 points while Erin Ware had eight points. Anniston Adkins and Sommer Jordan each had seven points apiece while Jordyn Boler had six points.
Bay Springs boys 40, Newton 33
The Bulldogs pulled away in the second half to take a seven-point win over the Tigers.
Each team scored three points in the first period and Newton outscored Bay Springs 15-8 in the second to take an 18-11 lead at the half. But Bay Springs outscored Newton 13-2 in the third and led 24-20 going to the fourth. Bay Springs took the fourth period 16-13 for the final margin.
Kaden Robinson led Newton with nine points while De’Traun Brown had seven points. Daylen Chapman also chipped in six points.
