The Newton County Academy basketball teams are off to a strong start with a pair of wins.
Both teams picked up two wins last week as they swept games from Kemper Academy and Prentiss Christian.
NCA is scheduled to play at Sylva Bay on Tuesday and Thursday’s game at Laurel Christian will be rescheduled as the football team will be playing at River Oaks.
NCA boys 50, Kemper 40
The Generals used a strong second half and took a 10-point win over the Rams on Thursday.
Kemper led 13-12 after the first period before NCA outscored the Rams 16-12 to take a 28-25 lead at the half. NCA then outscored Kemper 10-8 in the third and 12-7 in the fourth to take the win.
Cohen Rule had a huge game, pumping in a game-high 26 points while Parker Jones had 11 points and Gabriel Spangler added eight points.
NCA girls 47, Kemper 24
The Lady Generals dominated early as they rolled to a 23-point win over the Lady Rams.
NCA jumped out to a 20-3 lead and outscored Kemper 9-2 in the second to lead 29-5 at the half. NCA took the third 6-4 while Kemper outscored NCA 15-12 in the fourth for the final margin.
Adriane Luke led NCA with 14 points while Jesslyn Mott and Jaimsey Reese each had eight points. Maggie Vance also chipped in five points.
NCA boys 48, Prentiss Christian 40
The Generals got off to a fast start and held on late to take an eight-point win over the Saints on Tuesday.
The Generals started fast and outscored Prentiss 21-5 in the first period. The Saints took the second period 7-0 to cut the lead to 21-12. NCA then outscored Prentiss 14-10 in the third to extend the lead to 35-22 going to the fourth. The Saints took the fourth period 18-13 for the final margin.
Cohen Rule led NCA with 24 points while Parker Jones had 12 points.
NCA girls 37, Prentiss 25
The Lady Generals pulled away in the second half and took a 12-point win over the Lady Saints.
The game was tied 11-11 at the half before NCA outscored Prentiss 13-9 in the third and 13-5 in the fourth to take the win.
Jamie Stamper led NCA with 13 points while Jesslyn Mott had 10 points. Kelsey Tibbetts also chipped seven points.
