The high school basketball season got kicked off last week with most of the area teams seeing some action.
Here’s a look at how our local teams did last week.
NCA girls
The Lady Generals outscored the Laurel Lady Nighthawks in the first three periods and cruised to a 42-32 win on Thursday.
NCA outscored Laurel 10-8 in the first and 10-9 in the second to lead 20-17 at the half. NCA doubled up Laure 13-6 in the third to take a 33-23 lead going to the fourth where each team scored nine points.
Adriane Luke led NCA with 14 points while Kelsey Tibbets had nine points.
Lake girls
The Lady girls picked up two wins last week, beating Raleigh 47-14 and Magee 48-15.
Against Raleigh, Lake jumped out to a 30-7 lead at the half and then outscored the Lady Lions 17-7 to take the win. Natasha Patrick led Lake with 11 points while Taylor Clark and Nakijah Gammage each had seven points. Kyunnia Pinkston, Beautiful Carr and VaDaysha Patrick each had six points apiece.
Against Magee, the Lady Hornets won 48-15. Taylor Clark had 15 points while Natasha Patrick had 10 points. Annalisa Towner also had seven points for the Lady Hornets.
Union girls
The Union girls split a pair of games last week, beat Noxapater 42-37 while falling 44-41 to McAdams in overtime.
Against McAdams, Union led 27-23 at the half and the game went to overtime tied at 35-35. In the overtime, McAdams outscored Union 9-6 to take the win. Gracyn Tillman a had 14 points while Elle Killen had nine points. Rymia Craft had seven points while Kasten Anderson chipped in six points.
Against Union, the Lady Yellowjackets got their first win of the season, winning 42-37. Union led 10-5 at the end of the first but trailed 20-13 at the half. Union then outscored Noxapater 17-11 in the third and 12-6 in the fourth to take the win. Rymia Craft led Union with 14 points while Destiny Campbell had 11 points. Elle Killen had seven points while Gracyn Tillman added six points.
Newton boys
The Tigers pulled away in the second period and took a 61-38 win over St. Andrew’s to win the season opener.
Newton led 16-15 at the end of the first and then outscored St. Andrew’s 20-7 in the second to lead 36-22 at the half. Newton continued to extend the lead and outscored St. Andrew’s 12-7 in the third and 13-9 in the fourth for the final margin.
Antoine Griffin led a balanced scoring attack with 16 points while Detraun Brown had 11 points. Daelyn Chapman and Jimare Kincaid each had eight points apiece while Jamarques Holder had seven points. Cantrell Moore also chipped in six points.
Sebastopol girls
The Lady Bobcats started the season with a tight 29-27 win over Scott Central.
Sebastopol led 9-6 at the end of the first and 16-14 at the half. The score stayed tight as Sebastopol led 24-21 at the end of the this and held on for the two-point win.
Jaiden Williams led Sebastopol with eight points while Madeline Ogletree and Lakin Musgrove each had six points apiece. Cyrish Magculang also had four points for the Lady Bobcats.
