Former coach Crandal Porter came back to Newton with his new team, Kemper County.
Porter left with a loss as the Tigers rallied to take a thrilling 60-58 win over the Wildcats.
The Lady Tigers lost 69-34 to the Lady Wildcats to open the night.
Newton has a busy schedule this week as they play at Southeast Lauderdale on Monday and then host Philadelphia on Tuesday. They will finish the week at Bay Springs on Friday.
Newton boys 60, Kemper County 58
The Tigers bounced back from an early deficit and took a two-point come-from-behind win over the Wildcats on Friday in their only action of the week.
Kemper outscored Newton 16-12 in the first and 18-16 in the second period to lead 34-28 at the half. But Newton rallied in the second half and outscored Kemper 22-16 in the third to tie the game at 50-50 going to the fourth. Newton then outscored Kemper 10-8 in the fourth to take the win.
Kaden Robinson had another big game as he led the Tigers with 31 points and four steals. Jimare Kincaid had 10 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. Jy’Marques Holder also had six points and 12 rebounds for the Tigers.
Kemper County girls 69, Newton 34
The Lady Wildcats outscored the Lady Tigers in every period and took a 35-point win.
Kemper outscored Newton 17-7 in the first period and 16-14 in the second to take a 33-21 lead at the half. Kemper then pulled away in the second half, outscoring Newton 17-6 in the third and 19-7 in the fourth to take the win.
Jamiya Jones led Newton with 12 points while Euniya Taylor had 11 points.
