Although it’s been a rough season for the Union boys basketball team, it got a little better on Friday when the Yellowjackets picked up their first win of the season with a 54-29 win over Pisgah.
The Lady Yellowjackets weren’t as fortunate as they dropped a 53-52 contest to the Lady Dragons.
Union was scheduled to play at Philadelphia on Monday and play at Eupora on Friday as they open division play.
Union boys 54, Pisgah 29
The Yellowjackets outscored the Dragons in every period and cruised to a 25-point win on Friday.
It was a low-scoring contest early as Union led 9-4 at the end of the first period. Union then outscored Pisgah 14-7 in the second period and led 23-11 at the half. Union continued to extend its lead in the second half as the Yellowjackets outscored the Dragon 16-8 in the third and 15-10 in the fourth to take the win.
Aiden Davis continued his strong play as he led the Yellowjackets with 18 points. Zie Buckley and Omari Holiday each had eight points while Mason Tucker had five points. Kamani Townsend and Chance Harmon also chipped in four points apiece.
Pisgah girls 53, Union 52
The Lady Yellowjackets couldn’t hold onto an early lead as the dropped a one-point decision to the Lady Dragons.
Union outscored Pisgah 12-11 in the first and 13-12 in the second to lead 25-23 at the half. Pisgah then outscored Union 12-11 in the third period to cut the lead to 35-34 going to the fourth. The Lady Dragons then outscored the Lady Yellowjackets 19-17 in the fourth to take the win.
Gracyn Tillman led Union with 20 points, including six 3-pointers. Destiny Campbell had 10 points while Rymia Craft had 11 points.
