It was a rough week for the Union basketball teams as each squad got swept in division contests.
The Union boys fell 44-41 to J.Z. George and 48-30 to rival Philadelphia.
the Union girls lost a pair of close games, falling 38-36 to J.Z. George and 62-58 to Philadelphia.
Union has three games on the schedule this week as they were scheduled to host Eupora on Tuesday and then play at Lamar School on Friday. They will finish the week to on Saturday by hosting Enterprise.
J.Z. George boys 44, Union 41
The Yellowjackets build a first-half lead but couldn’t hold on as the Jaguars rallied for a three-point win.
Union outscored J.Z. George 12-6 in the first period and 14-8 in the second to take a 26-14 lead at the half. But the Jaguars rallied and outscored Union 12-8 in the third period and 18-7 in the fourth to take the win.
Aiden Davis led Union with 18 points while Mason tucker had nine points. Zie Buckley and Kobe Hutchins each had six points apiece for the Yellowjackets.
J.Z. George girls 38, Union 36
The Lady Jackets were unable to hold onto an early lead as the Lady Jaguars rallied to take a two-point win.
Union led 8-2 at the end of the first period and then outscored J.Z. George 13-11 in the second to lead 21-13 at the half. But J.Z. George had a big third period and outscored Union 18-6 to take a 31-27 lead into the fourth. Union took the fourth period 9-7 but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Jaguars held on for the win.
Rymia Craft led Union with 19 points while Gracyn Tillman had 13 points.
Philadelphia boys 48, Union 30
The Tornadoes pulled away in the third period and took an 18-point win over the Yellowjackets.
Philly held an 11-7 lead at the end of the first period and then outscored Union 14-9 in the second to lead 25-16 at the half. The Tornadoes then outscored the Yellowjackets 16-6 in the third to take a 41-22 lead into the fourth. Union took the fourth period 8-7 for the final margin.
Aiden Davis led Union with 11 points while Mason Tucker had seven points.
Philadelphia girls 62, Union 58
The Lady Tornadoes used a big second period to build an early lead and held on to take a four-point win over the Lady Yellowjackets.
Union led 11-9 at the end of the first period before Philadelphia outscored the Lady Yellowjackets 18-6 in the second to take a 27-17 lead at the half. Philly took the third period 20-18 to extend the lead to 47-35 going to the fourth. Union rallied and outscored Philly 23-15 in fourth for the final margin.
Gracyn Tillman led Union with 25 points while Rymia Craft had 19 points. Destiny Campbell also had six points.
