Officials with the Town of Decatur are excited to see a new Family Dollar, Dollar Tree combined store locating in the town limits.

Mayor David Marshall said the new building will be located on Hwy. 15 just north of the Ward’s restaurant. And he said it will have a special distinction.

Two weeks ago today, I like everyone, had a perfect bracket. No one had lost. Hope sprung eternal.

Today, my bracket is on its way to be weighed at the Newton County landfill. I know I’m usually not that great at picking the NCAA men’s basketball tournament, but this year isn’t the worst year I’ve ever had, but it’s pretty close.

The City of Newton is reopening its parks and the historic depot for the first time since the pandemic forced their shutdown a year ago.

The parks will reopen at 7 a.m. Wednesday, and rentals of the historic depot will resume on Wednesday as well.

Two communties host cleanups Saturday

The City of Newton's cleanup will be from 9-11 a.m. They will meet at 9 a.m. at Newton City Hall on Church Street. The aldermen will be providing water to the volunteers during the event.
