District: Gun was brought in mesh bag

The Newton Municipal School District has sent a message to parents at Newton Elementary School that clear backpacks are now “recommended” after a gun was brought on campus in a backpack and was discharged, injuring a 6-year-old student.

NEWTON: Youth injured in another shooting on Pine St.

The Newton Police Department is looking for a person of interest after a 15-year-old boy was injured in a shooting on Pine Street in Newton Sunday afternoon.

Police Chief Randy Patrick said the incident occurred around 2 p.m. Sunday on Pine Street at the intersection of Railroad Street.
