Crime: Attempted murder suspects still in jail

DECATUR: Heritage Festival set for Saturday

The Decatur Heritage Festival is back for 2023, but with a new name.

It is now the WNOW Newton County Heritage Festival. It is planned for Saturday, April 8, beginning with a 5k run/walk/bike race beginning at 8 a.m. and continues all day at the Newton County Alternative School, which is the former Boler High School.

NEWTON: City updates water cut-off procedures, fees

The City of Newton will begin implementing a service fee for unpaid bills regardless of whether the water was cut off or not if their bills are not paid by end of the business on the 15th day of each month.

NMSD calls special meeting

The Newton Municipal School District Board of Trustees have called a special called meeting today at 5 p.m. at the central office.

The notice, which was sent to The Newton County Appeal this morning, did not indicate the reason for the meeting. The agenda for the meeting was not immediately available.
