A new clothing boutique has opened its doors to customers in Downtown Decatur, offering the latest trends in women’s clothing and accessories and giving everyone another reason to shop local.
Two weeks ago, store owner Madison Mann started welcoming customers to Madison Avenue, located at 105 West Broad Street. Previously a kindergarten teacher at Newton County Elementary, she had been working in boutiques since high school, so it was only a matter of time before she opened one herself.
“I worked in a boutique in high school, and then started doing it a bit with Hickory Pick’n when I was a senior in high school,” said Mann. “So, I’ve always sort of dabbled in boutiques, but this is my first actual storefront. But this is my true passion. I love it!”
Mann, who lives in Decatur, says she’s always believed in supporting local shops and she chose to open one in Decatur to try and help bring business back to town and give local shoppers a convenient place to get what they need.
“It’s a big chance to take, but I felt a little pull that it was time to for me to do it,” said Mann. “It’s something that I’ve been praying about for a while and one day a calm came over me and it hit me that this is what I’m supposed to do. I told God I was trusting in him to work it out, and he definitely has.”
Madison Avenue specializes in women’s clothing for all ages, as well as some baby clothing and gift items.
“I try to bring in a wide variety of stuff that my mom could wear, stuff that I like to wear, and my sister is a freshman in college, so I try to pull in some things that her age would wear,” she said.
Mann also makes a lot of her boutiques own tee shirts and sweatshirts, which she said has been her latest hobby. In her store, she offers several tees and sweatshirts for local schools and athletic teams.
With a full week of welcoming shoppers into her boutique and a grand opening behind her, Mann said she has received overwhelming support from the community and looks forward to serving Decatur and the surrounding area for years to come.
“I thank all those who have already come by for their support, as well as those who will be coming by,” she said. “Everyone in the community has made me feel super welcome and I’m just excited to see what happens next.”
Madison Avenue is open Monday through Friday from 10:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. and on Saturdays from 10:30 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.
