Editor's note: A previous version of the headline for this story said that Everett was running for re-election. He is running for election. The mistake was not made by his campaign. The Appeal regrets the error and is happy to set the record straight.
I am John Everett. Four years ago, I committed to running for Supervisor of District 3 with a promise of Better Roads and Better Government, I hope this election you will entrust me to guarantee that promise. Having lived my entire life in Newton County, I value our community members and recognize that living in our county should be something to take pride in. I am married to Dr. Donna Everett, and we are lifelong Christians and Republicans. I have worked at East Central Community College for 24 years as the Electrical Technology Instructor; however, if I get the privilege to serve as your District 3 Supervisor I will resign my position with ECCC and be Your full time Supervisor. Throughout my role as Department Chair for the Electrical Department at East Central I have prepared budgets and made certain to operate within the budget; additionally, I have experience with the State bidding procedures. I want to give back to and ensure the safety of fellow community members, so I serve as Assistant Fire Chief for my local Volunteer Fire Department and have served as a first responder for Newton County for 31 years. Additionally, since 1998 I have owned a business buying, selling and operating construction equipment.
Now that you know my background, let me tell you my plans for the future. As I mentioned four years ago, I enjoyed getting to know each of you and appreciate every conversation I had throughout my campaign; therefore, as most of you know I told you that you would see me again in four years and that time has now come. I truly believe that I can make a difference and fix the concerns that I have heard from each of you. I know how crucial communication is and how it is the key to creating change. I know there is a more efficient way to spend YOUR tax dollars, to provide better roads/bridges, and support the Sheriff, Volunteer Fire Departments, and our Ambulance Service. As Supervisor my priority will be YOU and our county. I will always be available via phone call, text and email anytime you have a concern and will create a Facebook page where residents of Newton County can voice their concerns and share experiences and opinions. This way you can choose your preferred method of communication to contact me, as your Supervisor, day or night. I am also available to you right now to hear your frustrations, ideas and opinions, so please reach out via any of my platforms I would love the chance to discuss with you.
I am aware of the trash problem and have looked into effective solutions building on the ones established four years ago. As Supervisor, I will pave roads that will best serve our residents’ needs, additionally I will maintain and improve our existing roads. I strongly and proudly support our emergency services and their mission to serve the residents of Newton County. Knowing how crucial communication is, I will effectively communicate with local and state officials so they will know the needs of our county. I wholeheartedly support industry, small businesses and further growth and development.
I would be honored to have your vote for the primary election. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. Disclaimer: The views expressed during this campaign will be personal and do not necessarily represent the opinions of my current employer, East Central Community College – which is the reason I am now fully able to campaign since we are out for the summer. Again, if elected, being Supervisor will be my only job so I can serve you with all of my being, so I will resign from East Central Community College. Thank you and I look forward to continuing conversations with you in person.
