Ms. Alberta Hunter celebrated her 100th birthday on June 28, 2025, surrounded by family and friends at The Grand Street Café in Kansas City, Missouri. Loved ones traveled from across the country to mark this special occasion, including guests from Mississippi, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Nevada, Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin, and California.
Born June 23, 1925, in Decatur, Mississippi (Newton County), Ms. Hunter married W.B. Hunter in 1941 and later settled in Union, Mississippi, where they raised their children and built a loving home together. In 1968, she relocated to Kansas City, Missouri, where she continued raising her younger children and enjoyed a long and dedicated career with Guston Bacon Fiberglass, retiring after 20 years of service.
Even in retirement, Ms. Hunter remained active—teaching fitness classes, participating in charity walks, and embracing life with energy and joy. She has a rich variety of hobbies including gardening, fishing, baking, bowling, playing dominoes, and Bid Whist. A competitive spirit with a zest for life, she even took a cake decorating class and sold her famous desserts in her community.
Ms. Hunter is also a lifelong Kansas City Royals fan. Whether on TV or the radio, she never misses a game. If she can’t watch it, she tunes in and cheers them on with just as much passion.
At 100 years old, Ms. Hunter continues to inspire others with her strength and grace—she can still sit on the floor and touch her knees with her head, a testament to her commitment to wellness and vibrant living.
She is the proud matriarch of a large and loving family that includes 6 children, 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren—and one more expected in September.
Wishing Ms. Alberta Hunter a beautiful and blessed 100th birthday!
