As we roll into the first week of October, it’s time to start planning all those fun activities that arrives at this time of year, such as school fall festivals, Treat Street in Decatur, and the numerous other activities. One other local experience that is synonymous with this time of year is the pumpkin patch season at Lazy Acres Farms in Chunky.
Every fall, Lazy Acres opens its doors to families from far and wide, providing such family fun as picking out pumpkins, a corn maze, pig races, a wagon ride, shows, a variety of food, and numerous kids activities. During the offseason, owner Michael May and his family has worked diligently to enhance the fun for visitors to their family farm. This week, Fall Festival season starts and with it, two new attractions are being introduced: a paintball shooting range and the Monsters in the Moonlight walking trail.
In an effort to provide the older crowd something fun to do, Lazy Acres is debuting its new glow-in-the-dark paintball shooting gallery. The gallery is set up with 10 paintball guns and a gallery made up to look like the outside of an old west saloon, jail, and general store.
“A lot of the farms that put them in last year were telling us we had to add the paintball gallery because it was really cool,” said May. “While we know that kids will love it, we wanted to add this attraction to reach more of our tweens and older customers and give them something to do.”
While most of the attractions inside Lazy Acres come with the price of admission, the shooting gallery is a pay to play attraction, starting at $5 for 50 paintball shots, with additional options for more shots.
The second addition to Lazy Acres Fall Festival attractions is Monsters in the Moonlight Walking Trail. During the day, the wagon ride will take folks to the pumpkin patch, where they can pick the perfect pumpkin to take home. But once the sun goes down, the wagon rides will still take folks to the pumpkins patch, but right across the way can take in the new “Monsters in the Moonlight” trail, where those brave enough to walk the trail will notice some old favorites, as well as some new additions that’s sure to make one walk a little faster.
From werewolves, punny ‘cinematary’ scenes, to an old truck that needs a little helpin’, the walking trail is nice mix of humor and spookiness, which equates to just a little more fun to be had at Lazy Acres.
Lazy Acres Fall Festival is scheduled to run from now to Nov. 1. The farm is open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.; Friday’s from 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; Saturdays from 10 a.m.-10 p.m.; and Sundays from 1-7 p.m.
“It’s a once-a-year opportunity to come bring your family to the farm,” said May. “So come see us, see what’s new, and have a great and fun fall experience.”
