The Sebastopol Lady Bobcats finished a roller coaster ride to the Class 1A state championship series last week.
Less than 24 hours after beating Ethel 4-2 to advance to the championship series, the Lady Bobcats lost 5-4 to Hamilton in game 1 of the Class 1A title series. Hamilton then beat Sebastopol 9-2 on Wednesday to take the 1A title.
Sebastopol finishes the season with a 25-9 record.
Hamilton 5, Sebastopol 4
Less than 24 hours after one of the biggest wins in Sebastopol history, the Lady Bobcats dropped a thriller on Tuesday.
Hamilton had a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh and took a 5-4 win over Sebastopol on Tuesday in the opening round of the Class 1A state championship series at the University of Southern Miss.
Sebastopol falls to 25-8 on the season and will face the Lady Lions in game 2 on Wednesday, weather permitting.
Sebastopol had a pair of two-run innings in the third and fourth while Hamilton scored one in the second, third, fourth and fifth to tie the game after five innings. Hamilton then scored one in the bottom of the seventh to take the win.
Hamilton outhit Sebastopol 7-6 in the contest. Hanna Boleware was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored while Annagrace Stewart, Abbie Wilson and Neely Wolverton each singled and drove in a run. Marlee Smith also singled and scored a run.
Wolverton started in the circle and pitched six innings, giving up five runs on seven hits and seven walks while striking out two.
Hamilton 9, Sebastopol 2
The Lady Lions used some strong pitching and used a big fourth inning to take a seven-run win over the Lady Bobcats to claim the series and the Class 1A state championship on Wednesday.
The first three innings were scoreless before Hamilton put the game away with six runs in the fourth inning. Sebastopol added single runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth inning to cut the score to 6-2. Hamilton finished with three runs in the top of the seven for the final margin.
Hamilton outhit Sebastopol 8-1 in the contest. Georgi Gunn doubled and drove in a run while Abbie Wilson walked twice and scored a run. Marlee Smith also scored a run after being hit by a pitch.
Neely Wolverton started and pitched 3 1/3 innings, giving up five runs in four hits and five walks while striking out one. Savannah Crout pitched the last 3 2/3 innings and gave up four runs, only one earned, on four hits and a walk.
