The Hickory Reading Club meeting of April twelfth was hosted by Phyllis Cain, Marie Fanning, and Daphne McMillan. Candles and florals set a gracious atmosphere for a full “steak out” menu including sides and desserts, served in the fellowship hall of Hickory Baptist Church.
The meditation based on First Corinthians and presented by Jackie Stamm asserted that spiritual gifts are given to all. The gift might not be what the recipient would choose, but once discovered, loving and using the gift well is still his/her responsibility.
The new slate of officers presented and accepted includes President Marie Fanning, Vice President Janice Morgan, Treasurer Jackie Stamm, Secretary Jane Brand, Hospitality (chairperson) Phyllis Cain, Reminder (chairperson) Judy Leach, and Reporter Pam Waters.
Preceding the meal, a music and comedy program presented by Jana Gillis and Jenny Cochran was a unique and appreciated diversion. The two performers welcomed “guests” Minnie Pearl for comedy monologues, as well as Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn for song favorites.
