The American Legion Auxiliary Hickory Post 173 met on Thursday, August 3, for the first meeting of the new 2023-2024 year. Cassandra Gibbs, District 5 President, was present to install our new officers. Our officers include Linda Massey, President; Patricia Hastings, First Vice-President; Shawn Strait, Second Vice-President; Wanda Dearing, Secretary/Treasurer; Judy Henley, Chaplain; Minnie Gressett, Sergeant-at-Arms.
We took care of some business including getting a sign from Nelson Printing and dues have been increased to $35 yearly. Shawn Strait gave information on the Vietnam Wall Memorial last weekend in Meridian. There were over 2000 people attended the event. There are approximately 58,267 names on the Wall with only 8 women. The Memorial will be back in Jackson, Mississippi next year. We will be raffling a red, white, and blue throw in the next few months. We will be at Hickory Pick’N day on November 4th serving our delicious hot chocolate and coffee.
We would love to have you join us in the Auxiliary if your spouse is a military veteran. We meet on the first Thursday every other month at 6 pm with a potluck dinner starting in August.
