Newton County Academy’s Kemp Alderman added another home run to his total this past week but also had another first in his collegiate career.
In a 13-4 win over Alcorn State in a mid-week game, Alderman pitched for the first time for the Rebels. With Ole Miss holding a nine-run lead, Alderman pitched the ninth inning, pumping fast balls that reached 90-plus miles per hour. Alderman walked one batter and struck out three, leading many Ole Miss fans to call for Alderman to be the Rebels’ new closer. Alderman also went 2-for-4 at the plate and homered again to extend his team lead.
Alderman only collected four hits in a weekend series at Mississippi State as the Bulldogs took two out of three games on the weekend.
On Friday night, Alderman was 2-for-5 with a solo home run in the eighth inning.
After going 0-for-4 on Saturday, Alderman was 2-for-4 on Sunday with an RBI single in the seventh.
Alderman is now second on the team in hitting with a .355 average but still leads the team with 15 home runs and 51 RBIs.
