Hickory homeschool standout joins Trojans lineup
Elijah Alejandro Johnson, a senior homeschooled athlete from Hickory, Mississippi, has officially signed his National Letter of Intent to play baseball at Mississippi Delta Community College. This commitment marks a significant milestone as Elijah begins a new chapter in his academic and athletic journey with the Trojans—a path built on dedication, discipline, and remarkable talent.
Elijah, the eldest son of Jason and Amelia Johnson, is surrounded by a close-knit family, including his two younger brothers, Jeremiah and Isaiah Johnson, who look up to him as a role model. Elijah is also the grandson of Newton County School Resource Officer Robert Johnson and the late Edith Mensch from Arkansas. He counts among his extended family his supportive aunties and uncles, Vicky Maxwell and April Evans, Joshua Johnson who has been a constant presence in his life. Known for his exceptional athleticism and leadership, Elijah has made a remarkable impact within the Mid-South Association of Homeschool Athletes (MSAHA), particularly in baseball. As a dual-sport athlete and 3x Team Captain for the Meridian Flyers, Elijah has achieved numerous accolades, including 1st Team All-Conference three times and selection as an All-Star within the MSAHA. His commitment and skill have also earned him national recognition as a Perfect Game Ranked and Pre-Season All-American, a Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-American, and a 2x All-Star for the Magnolia Sports Association.
Elijah’s accomplishments go beyond the field, emphasizing the character and leadership he brings to each endeavor. He is a Best in the U.S. MVP Finalist and he was awarded the Brandon Guyer Major League Mindset Award, which honors his focus, sportsmanship, and commitment to personal growth.
Reflecting on this moment, Elijah expressed his gratitude for the support that has shaped his journey. “I want to express my heartfelt thanks to GOD, my parents, coaches, and family for their unwavering support throughout my baseball career,” he shared. “Their encouragement has been invaluable, and I’m incredibly grateful for everything they’ve done to help me reach this moment.”
Elijah extended a special thank you to Coach Dorsey and Mississippi Delta Community College for providing him with this new opportunity. “I’m thrilled to start my college baseball career at Mississippi Delta,” he said. “This is a dream come true, and I’m looking forward to contributing to the team and continuing to grow as an athlete and a student.”
With a bright future ahead, Elijah Johnson is poised to make a significant impact both on the field and in the classroom. Mississippi Delta Community College is gaining an exceptional young talent with a strong support system behind him, including his proud brothers Jeremiah and Isaiah and his aunt Vicky. The Hickory community, along with his family and coaches, eagerly anticipates all that Elijah will accomplish in this exciting new chapter.
