Lake High School had three players sign to play college softball last week.
Lake’s Adyson McKnight, Alyssa Sockey and Daelyn Earls will all be moving on to play college softball.
“It’s a big accomplishment for our school and our program,” coach Zach Hanna said. “I think it says a lot about our girls. They work hard and compete hard. They are a good group of leaders and that’s what makes them successful. They want to make each other better. This is my sixth year here and we have had somebody sign every year. We have had 13 in all sign and some others who could have signed. These girls work their tails off playing year around and have earned everything they have gotten.”
McKnight signed to play at Hinds Community College. She hit .389 last year with 13 doubled and three triples while driving in 40 runs. Hanna said she will be a corner infielder at the next level and could also catch.
“I feel comfortable with her playing anywhere,” Hanna said. “She has a good glove and is good at catcher. She has a strong arm so people aren’t going to be running on her. She has a good bat and hits for average. She isn’t going to strike out a lot.”
Sockey signed to play with Holmes Community College and will play in the outfield. Sockey hit .408 last year with 21 RBIs and 21 runs scored.
“She can play anywhere in the outfield and can play in the infield,” Hanna said. “She will play outfield in college. She made a bunch of really nice plays in the outfield for us last year. She has grown tremendously at the plate and was one of our better hitters last year.”
Finishing out the group is Earls, who signed to play at East Mississippi. Earls hit .405 last year with 28 RBIs and 23 runs scored. On the mound, she pitched 53 innings and had six wins with 26 strikeouts.
“She played second and pitched a lot for us last year,” Hanna said. “She will got to college as a pitcher but she can play anywhere in the infield. In the circle, she throws a lot of pitches and is god at all of them. She’s got a good bat as well.”
