A student accidentally discharged a gun on the campus of East Central Community College in Decatur on the afternoon of Tuesday, August 27. There were no injuries reported.
According to the weekly blotter from the Newton County Jail, Jacarrio D. Anderson, from Macon, was charged with unlawful possession a weapon on educational property on August 27 by the East Central Police Department.
The college released the following statement after the incident:
“East Central Community College takes the safety of students, faculty, and anyone on campus very seriously. We are aware of the situation that occurred today with a student accidentally discharging a firearm on campus. The ECCC Police Department responded quickly and detained the individual. The accidental discharge resulted in no injuries, and there is no active danger to students or personnel on campus at this time.”
The ECCC Police Department said that they had no other statements, adding that the incident is under further investigation.
