Newton youth baseball, softball registration
The City of Newton Parks and Recreation has begun registration for rec league softball, baseball, and T-ball. Deadline for registration is February 17. Pick up form at the temporary Newton City Hall on Hwy 15N. Fees are $40 per child for ages 4 through 12. For more information, contact city hall at 601-683-6181.
Union City baseball, softball T-ball signups
The City of Union will have its annual youth T-ball, baseball and softball signups for ages 4-12 from Feb. 1-24. The cost is $50 per child. To register your children for the upcoming season, bring your registration forms and fees to Union City Hall during normal business hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Lady Warriors Split Doubleheader with MMI
The Lady Warriors of East Central split a pair of games with Marion Military Institute on Thursday afternoon after falling in the opener 1-0 and bouncing back in the nightcap with a 12-5 victory. The split moved the Lady Warriors to 4-2 on the young season.
Game One: L, 1-0
Mckinleigh Evans started the game for the Lady Warriors in the circle and went the distance in the contest. Despite the loss, Warriors had a few shining moments, including three hits, one from Meadow Villar, Janci Aube, and Taylor Pittman.
The Lady Tigers' lone run came from an RBI double in the top of the fifth inning.
Game Two: W, 12-5
Villar was the standout player of the nightcap as the sophomore drove in five runs on two hits, including a home run in the third inning and a grand slam in the fifth. Pittman had a three-run long ball in the first inning to get the scoring onslaught started for the Lady Warriors.
The Lady Warriors racked up 10 hits in the contest. Aube posted a pair of RBIs while Emmi Harkins and Catherine Stroud added one each.
Emily Collins led ECCC from the pitcher's circle, going four innings, allowing three runs on five hits, while striking out six and walking one.
