Four USM Baseball Players Chosen on Second Day of MLB Draft
Four Southern Miss baseball players were chosen on the second day of the Major League Baseball Draft, Monday, which includes the selections of right-handed pitcher Tanner Hall (4th round/114th pick) to the Minnesota Twins, left-handed pitcher Justin Storm (7th round/203rd pick) to the Miami Marlins, shortstop Dustin Dickerson (8th round/229th pick) to the Kansas City Royals and outfielder Matthew Etzel (10th round/301st pick) to the Baltimore Orioles.
Hall, a consensus All-American and 2023 Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Year, collected a 12-4 record in 2023 with a 2.48 earned run average.
He fanned 124 and walked 33 in 112 1/3 innings. The ABCA/Rawlings Division I Gold Glove recipient also limited opponents to just a .207 batting average.
Two drafted from Mississippi State Baseball
Junior outfielder Colton Ledbetter heard his name called on the opening day of the 2023 Major League Baseball Draft, held on Sunday (July 9) in Seattle. This marks the fourth straight season that MSU had a student-athlete taken in the first two rounds.
Junior pitcher Cade Smith heard his name called on the second day of the 2023 Major League Baseball Draft, held on Monday. Smith was the No. 192 overall pick by the New York Yankees in the sixth round.
Rebels Selected on Day Two of the 2023 MLB Draft
Two more Rebels were picked up in the 2023 Major League Baseball Draft Monday afternoon as Calvin Harris and Jack Dougherty were both selected to play professional baseball at the next level.
Harris was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the fourth round as the 116th overall pick in the draft. He joins Jacob Gonzalez as one of the White Sox's draft picks in this draft and is now the fourth Rebel drafted by the team from Chicago's south side in the last three drafts.
