I write about this every year, but this week is fair week! People from all across the state are flocking to the Neshoba County Fairgrounds for a week of fun. Here are some things you might not know about the fair.
The Neshoba County Fair began in 1889 as a farmers market known as the Coldwater Fair. In 1894, the pavilion was built, and people started staying at the fairgrounds for the entire week. The tradition of politicians speaking at the fair started in 1896. The racetrack was constructed in 1914, and the fairgrounds got electricity in 1939. The fair wasn't held during World War II, but it reopened in 1946. Over the years, cabins were built, entertainment was added, and the schedule was expanded, creating the fair we all know today.
This year, fairgoers can enjoy the Miss Neshoba County Fair pageant on Monday night. Concerts by Jon Langston, Blackberry Smoke, Tyler Braden, Dillon Carmichael, and The Frontmen are also scheduled. In addition to the main acts, various bands and artists will perform at the pavilion throughout the week.
The fair features a flea market and a farmers market for shopping. There are also many rides for both children and adults. Some are fast and thrilling, while others are slower. My favorite is the classic Ferris wheel. The fair is a great place to take someone special for a night of fun!
Don't miss the numerous food trucks offering your favorite fair food. My personal favorite is funnel cake fries, but I also love Lost Pizza.
If you're planning to attend the fair, I hope you have a lot of fun with your friends and family, and I hope to see you there! What’s your favorite thing to do at the fair?If you have any article ideas or suggestions, please feel free to email me at acch2006@outlook.com.
